Kurbside
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 28 July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Kurbside handles information when you use the Kurbside mobile application, website or contact us. Kurbside is operated by Sepehr Kashani Nejad in Melbourne, Australia ("Kurbside", "we", "us" or "our").
Kurbside helps users find household bin collection information for supported Australian council areas and schedule reminders on their device.
1. Information we handle
Address and property information
When you search for or select a property, Kurbside may process the address you enter, a Google place identifier, latitude and longitude, suburb, postcode, state, council, council property or collection-area identifier, and the collection schedule returned for that property.
Optional location information
If you tap the location button and grant permission, Kurbside accesses your approximate or precise foreground location to determine an address. Location access is optional. You can enter an address manually instead and can withdraw location permission at any time in your device settings.
Preferences stored on your device
Kurbside stores your selected property and collection calendar, theme preference, reminder settings and identifiers for scheduled notifications locally on your device. Notification reminders are currently scheduled locally and Kurbside does not maintain a remote push-token database.
Support communications
If you contact us, we receive the information you choose to provide, such as your email address, message and information needed to investigate your request.
Technical information
Our hosting, database and network providers may process basic technical request information, such as IP address, request time, response status and security logs, to operate, secure and troubleshoot the service. Kurbside does not currently use advertising SDKs or behavioural analytics and does not create user accounts.
2. How information is collected
We collect or receive information:
- directly from you when you enter an address or contact us;
- from your device when you choose to use foreground location;
- from Google Places when you select an address suggestion;
- from supported councils and their service providers; and
- from service providers that operate Kurbside's API, database and hosting.
3. Why we use information
We use information where reasonably necessary to:
- suggest and confirm Australian addresses;
- identify the relevant council and collection area;
- retrieve, store and reuse collection schedules;
- display upcoming collections and schedule device reminders;
- remember your settings and selected property;
- respond to support, privacy and data-deletion requests;
- maintain security, prevent misuse and diagnose failures; and
- comply with applicable laws and lawful requests.
4. When information is shared
We may disclose or make information available to:
- Google Places and platform location services, to provide address suggestions, address details and reverse geocoding. Google's handling of information is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
- Supported councils and their technology providers, when an address, council property identifier or location is needed to obtain a collection schedule.
- Infrastructure providers, including database, API and hosting providers such as Neon, where they process information on our behalf to operate Kurbside.
- Authorities or other parties, where required by law or reasonably necessary to protect users, Kurbside or others from fraud, security threats or unlawful activity.
We do not sell personal information, use it for targeted advertising or permit third parties to track you across unrelated apps and websites.
5. Overseas processing
Some service providers may process or store information outside Australia, including in countries where Google, Neon or a future hosting provider operates. Privacy and data-protection laws in those countries may differ from Australian law. We take reasonable steps to select reputable providers and protect information handled on our behalf.
6. Storage and retention
Property and collection information may be retained in Kurbside's database while it remains reasonably necessary to operate the service, keep schedules current, resolve council-provider issues and meet legal or security requirements. A property record is not currently connected to a Kurbside user account.
Support correspondence is retained for as long as reasonably needed to respond, keep appropriate records and resolve disputes. Information that is no longer required is deleted or de-identified where reasonably practicable, subject to backups and legal obligations.
You can remove locally stored Kurbside information by changing or removing your saved property, clearing the app's data, or uninstalling the app. You can also request deletion of information held by us using the contact details below.
7. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. No internet transmission or storage system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your choices and rights
You may:
- decline or revoke location permission and type an address manually;
- decline or revoke notification permission;
- change or remove the property saved in the app;
- ask whether we hold personal information about you and request access or correction; and
- request deletion of information where applicable.
We may need information from you to locate the relevant record and verify that a request relates to you. Some records may need to be retained where required by law or for legitimate security and record-keeping purposes.
9. Children
Kurbside is a general household utility and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly seek personal information from children. A parent or guardian who believes a child has provided personal information may contact us to request its deletion.
10. Third-party services and links
Council websites, Google services and other third-party services have their own privacy practices and terms. We encourage you to review them. Kurbside is not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties we do not control.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when Kurbside's features, providers or legal obligations change. The updated version will be published on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Material changes may also be communicated in the app or through another reasonable channel.
